NASK estas trisemajna studprogramo kiu emfazas aktivan uzadon de Esperanto en interkulturaj komunikado, kompreno, kaj kunlaboro. La kursaron fondis Catherine kaj William Schulze en 1970 ĉe Sanfranciska Ŝtata Universitato (SFŜU), por pretigi instruistojn kaj plibonigi la lingvonivelon de usonaj Esperantistoj.

Depost tiam pli ol 2000 studantoj el diversaj landoj jam venis al NASK por profiti gvidadon de vere internacia grupo de eminentaj instruistoj. En 1994 la urbestro de Sanfrancisko faris oficialan proklamon kiu laudis la grandan laboron de Cathy Schulze kaj priskribis la kursaron kiel modelon de altkvalita fremdlingva instruado.

En 2001 NASK translokiĝis—unue al la Universitato de Sanfrancisko, kaj poste al la Altlernejo por Internacia Trejnado en Vermonto. Ĝi translokiĝis reen al la okcidenta marbordo en 2007, ĉi-foje al la bela apudmara Universitato de Kalifornio ĉe Sandiego (UCSD), kie partoprenantoj profitas ne nur de la rimedoj de mondfama altlernejo, sed ankaŭ de spertaj Esperantistoj en la universitato fakultato kaj ĉirkaŭa komunumo.

NASK is a three-week study program emphasizing active use of Esperanto in intercultural communication, comprehension, and collaboration. It was founded by Catherine and William Schulze in 1970 at San Francisco State University (SFSU) to train Esperanto instructors and improve the language skills of American Esperantists.

Since then over 2,000 students from around the globe have come to NASK to benefit from a truly international group of distinguished instructors. In 1994 the mayor of San Francisco issued an official proclamation praising Cathy Schulze for her enormous work, describing NASK as a model of high-quality foreign language instruction.

In 2001 NASK moved—first to the University of San Francisco, and then to the School for International Training in Vermont. It returned once again in 2007 to the west coast, this time to the beautiful seaside University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where participants benefit not only from the resources of a world-renowned university, but also from the experienced Esperantists on the faculty and in the surrounding community.

Classes run for three hours each day and are administered by Dr. Grant Goodall, director of the university's Linguistics Language Program. Students completing a course receive five official college credits from the University of California, which can be transferred to other institutions of higher learning to be used towards a degree.

Tamen NASK estas ne nur kursoj, sed ankaŭ vesperaj kaj semajnfinaj programoj. Lernantoj havas multajn okazojn distriĝi kaj neformale esplori diversajn aspektojn de la lingvo kaj kulturo.

Oni rajtas elekti inter ludoj, kantoj, prelegoj, lumbildaj prezentaĵoj, poeziaj vesperoj, interkulturaj diskutoj, piknikoj—aŭ proponi proprajn ideojn. Ni ankaŭ faras ekskursojn al ĉirkaŭaj vidindaĵoj: la universitato situas en paradiza apudmara regiono kun belegaj plaĝoj, vigla urbocentro, muzeoj, parkoj, butikoj, ktp.

NASK is not just courses, but also evening and weekend programs. Students have many opportunites to relax and informally explore various aspects of the language and culture.

You can choose from games, sing-alongs, talks, slide lectures, poetry evenings, intercultural discussions, picnics—or propose your own program ideas. We also take short trips to nearby attractions: the university is located along the coastline, in an area with gorgeous beaches, a vibrant city center, museums, parks, shops, etc.
